PROGRAM OVERVIEW

SP Jain’s Manufacturing Excellence program focuses on helping you learn and implement the best practices for world-class manufacturing.

This program aims to take a fresh, hard look at the day-to-day operations and gain a whole new set of realisations, namely of the ‘deviations’ (i.e. what happens v/s what should be happening), on each manufacturing line. It will help you tackle the challenges of quality inconsistencies, long cycle times, extensive work-in-process inventories, high costs and capacity underutilisation.

Learning Outcomes

You will learn concepts, principles, policies and techniques for managing and operating a manufacturing enterprise resulting in Throughput Improvement, Inventory Reduction and Operating Expenses Reduction.

At the end of the program, you will create a time-bound personal and organisational ‘Action Agenda’ to implement the learnings.

Curriculum

Our carefully crafted program content makes your learning practical, relevant and contemporary.

1. Role of Manufacturing in Organisation Strategy

  • Implication of Order-Losing Sensitive Criteria and Order-Winners in Manufacturing
  • Volume – Variety Mix structure in Manufacturing

2. Theory of Constraints & Laws of Factory Physics

  • Role of Costing to improve throughput and return on investments
  • Interaction between throughput, cycle time and inventory – management of the same
  • Rules for scheduling to minimise cycle time and inventory
  • Identification, measurement and reduction of variabilities (viz. of rework, rejections, set-ups, breakdowns, operator unavailability, etc.) in a manufacturing system

3. Action Agenda

  • Role of Automation and Capacity Planning – extracting optimum from available assets and achieving an improved return on investments
  • Facilities Layout – material flows and handling
  • Method Study – to reduce and eliminate wasteful activities
  • Change-over (Set-up) Techniques
  • Quality Planning, Systems and Mistake Proofing
  • Role of Line Operator – the need for versatility

4. Performance Measurement Systems

  • Discussion and finalisation of performance measurement indices that help monitor and improve the performance of a manufacturing plant.

How You Will Learn

  • Discussions will be supported by case studies covering several industries where the principles and techniques have been implemented; industries include pharmaceuticals, textiles, glass bottles, polyester films, engineering, packaging materials manufacturing, readymade garments and more.
  • Cases reported in professional literature will also be discussed.
